Your agency's sales page says "we run ads for roofers" and gets skimmed in 9 seconds. A VSL sits your prospect down for 10 minutes, walks them through their pain in their own words, shows them WHY their leads are trash, and hands them your system as the only logical fix. By the end they book the call already half closed. This class builds that VSL with the exact system behind some of the biggest direct response campaigns on the internet, then gives you two ways to get it in front of your niche: send it outbound for free, or run ads and let them come to you.

Where this class comes from: the frameworks below are pulled from the MEGA BRAIN, my knowledge base of digested masterclasses. The purple tags cite the exact knowledge chunks, most from Peter Kell's VSL system, the guy behind campaigns that spent 9 figures profitably. You are getting the distilled version, adapted for selling agency services.

🎬 1. Why a VSL Beats Your Sales Page

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0024 · PKL-0021

There are two modes of selling: lecturing and storytelling. A sales page lectures. Walls go up, claims get skimmed, the back button wins. A story puts people in what copywriters call a trance: "when your inner imagination becomes more real than the outer world." Every 9-figure campaign on the internet is one long story, not a lecture. Video is the strongest trance medium there is, and you control the order of every argument. Nobody skips to the price.

⚠ Your sales page today
  • Read in any order, usually price first
  • 9 second average attention
  • Claims without buildup: "we get results"
  • Pain mentioned in one generic line
  • Prospect books the call knowing nothing
  • Call = you selling from zero
✓ Your VSL
  • One argument at a time, your order
  • 8 to 12 minutes of held attention
  • Pain described better than they can say it
  • Root cause revealed, mechanism explained
  • Prospect books the call pre-sold
  • Call = confirming details

The water slide rule: a good VSL is a water slide. The prospect gets on at the hook and cannot get off until the call to action. When you review your script, ask one question at every line: "am I still in trance, or did something knock me out?"

🎯 2. One Niche, One VSL

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0022 · PKL-0023

A VSL for "business owners" converts nobody. The whole power of this format is depth: describing THEIR Tuesday, THEIR trash leads, THEIR no-show inspections. That only works when you pick one niche. Use the Tier A matrix from Class 5.21: roofing, HVAC, solar, med spas, dental, chiro, fitness, legal. Pick the one where you have the most proof or the most interest.

"But I serve 3 niches." Then you will eventually have 3 VSLs. Each one is a separate swing at the market. Start with one. The second takes a third of the time because the structure stays and only the specifics change.

🔍 3. The Research: 8 Puzzle Pieces Before One Word of Script

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0028

Every sale in the world follows the same emotional flow: Problem, Emotional Pain, Root Cause, Solution, Benefits. Your job before writing is to collect the raw material for each. Eight pieces, adapted here for selling agency services to a local niche:

PIECE 1
Demographics
Exactly who watches this.
Roofing company owner, 35 to 60, $1M to $10M revenue, runs the sales himself or has 1 to 3 reps
PIECE 2
Physical problems
Every way the business problem shows up in their week.
Leads that never answer, tire kickers, feast or famine months, reps wasting hours dialing dead numbers
PIECE 3
Emotional problems
What keeps them up at night. The stuff they would never post about.
Payroll anxiety in slow months, watching a worse competitor grow faster, feeling stupid for burning $15K with the last agency
PIECE 4
Root cause
WHY the problem happens. This is your biggest weapon, because nobody has ever explained it to them.
Generic lead forms qualify nobody, so sales time gets spread across 100 leads where 80 were never buyers
PIECE 5
Physical benefits
Concrete outcomes with numbers.
Calendar full of qualified inspections, cost per booked job cut in half, reps only talking to real buyers
PIECE 6
Emotional benefits
The deeper payoff.
Sleeping through storm season, being the company others envy, never sweating payroll again
PIECE 7
Tools and techniques
The parts of your system that fix the root cause. You built these in 5.21 and 5.22.
AI diagnosis funnel that qualifies before the call, instant follow-up agent, sales payload with lead score
PIECE 8
Authority figure
Why you. Results, numbers, niche focus. You do not need fame, you need specificity.
"We only work with roofers. 247 booked inspections for one client in 60 days. Here is the dashboard."

For pieces 3 and 6, use the emotional research prompt chain with AI, then verify with real conversations:

COPY ALLPROMPT 1: What are 20 things a [roofing company owner doing $2M a year] who [keeps getting unqualified leads from his ads] might lay awake at night having anxiety about? PROMPT 2 (after it answers): Rewrite the above but make it more emotional. Talk about things this person would never admit publicly. PROMPT 3: What are 20 things that same owner secretly wishes would happen in his business?

AI gives you a 7 out of 10. Real conversations give you the 10. If you have ever been on a call with a business owner in your niche, write down the exact phrases they used. One real "I just want to stop chasing people who were never going to buy" beats twenty generated lines.

🧒 4. The Kindergarten Pitch and the Three Green Lights

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0028

Before scripting, compress your whole argument into a pitch a child would follow. If it does not make instant sense at this altitude, no amount of production saves it. A famous skincare brand spent a year and a fortune on a VSL built on a mechanism that failed this test. It never sold.

Agency example: "Your ads bring you leads, but most are people who were never going to buy. That is because a form asks nothing, so everyone gets through. We install a smart intake that interviews every lead like a doctor before your team ever calls. Your reps only talk to real buyers. One client booked 247 real inspections in 60 days this way."

Test it on someone outside marketing. You need all three lights green:

🟢
Root cause clicks
They say "oh, THAT is why the leads are bad" without you explaining twice.
🟢
Solution is believable
They say "yeah, that would work" about your mechanism. Not "sounds fancy."
🟢
The pieces sound legit
The parts of your system sound real and concrete, not buzzwords.

Any red light: stop. Do not write the script. Fix the pitch first. A weak root cause or unbelievable mechanism cannot be rescued by better editing, better b-roll, or a better hook.

⚙️ 5. Name Your Mechanism (The Make or Break)

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0023

The mechanism is HOW you fix their problem. It matters more than your authority, more than your editing, more than your hook. Proof from the source material: three products for the same back pain market, same VSL structure, same audience. Only the mechanism changed.

MechanismThe pitchMarket reactionResult
Acupuncture mat"Press specific points to relieve pain""Nah"Failed
Compression socks"Squeeze veins to boost blood flow""Kind of makes sense"Mediocre
Pain relief patches"Stop nerve signals from firing to your brain""Yeah, that would work"Exploded

Now the agency translation. "We run Facebook ads" is the acupuncture mat: a commodity with no believable HOW. Your mechanism is the system you already built in this course, and it needs a name:

What you sayBelievability
"We run ads and manage your budget"Commodity. Every agency says this. No mechanism.
"We use AI to optimize your campaigns"Buzzword. Nobody can picture how it works.
"The [Named System]: every lead gets interviewed by a smart intake before your team calls, so reps only ever talk to qualified buyers, and every ad dollar gets tracked to a booked job"Concrete, picturable, kindergarten simple. This sells.

Name it. "The Storm Season Engine." "The Qualified Patient Pipeline." "The Booked Jobs System." A named mechanism becomes YOUR thing that nobody else offers, even if a competitor runs similar ads. The name alone moves you out of the commodity bucket.

📜 6. The Script: The Universal 11-Step Flow

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0024 · PKL-0020

The biggest VSL campaigns on the internet were mapped scene by scene, and they all follow the same skeleton. You do not invent a structure, you fill this one with your research pieces. Here it is, with an agency example line for every step:

The fascinating hook
A question or claim that names their exact situation.
"Why do some roofing companies book 40 inspections a month from ads while others pay the same money for leads that never pick up the phone?"
Authority intro
Who you are, in one breath, specific to the niche.
"I'm [name]. My agency works exclusively with roofers, and I'm about to show you the exact system behind 247 booked inspections in 60 days."
The inciting incident
Two companies, same conditions, different outcomes. Creates the question the whole VSL answers.
"Two roofers in the same city. Same ad budget. Same storm. One closed $340K last quarter from ads. The other fired his agency. Same market, same money. So what was different?"
The confusion
You were stumped too. This earns trust before the reveal.
"For a long time I couldn't explain it. Both had good ads. Both had decent websites. The difference wasn't where everyone looks."
The discovery
The ONE difference you found.
"Then I noticed the only real difference: what happens in the 90 seconds AFTER someone clicks the ad."
Root cause education
Teach them why the problem exists. This is where they think "nobody ever explained this to me."
"A form asks nothing, so it filters nobody. Your reps split their day across 100 leads where 80 were never buyers. It is not an ads problem. It is a qualification problem, and it happens before the first phone call."
The mechanism
Your named system and HOW it works, kindergarten simple.
"So we built the [Named System]: every lead gets interviewed by a smart intake, like a doctor's visit, before your team ever dials. The bad fits filter themselves out. Your reps open every call already knowing the roof's age, the storm history, and the insurance situation."
Testing and proof
You ran it. Numbers happened.
"First client we ran it for: cost per booked inspection dropped from $247 to $138 in 6 weeks. Show the dashboard on screen. Real numbers beat adjectives."
The offer
What working together looks like. No price in the VSL.
"We install the whole thing for you: the ads, the intake, the follow-up. You get one number to watch: cost per booked job."
Social proof
One or two client voices. Screenshots count.
"Here is what Mike from [company] sent me after month two." Screenshot of the text on screen.
The close
One CTA, a reason to act now, what happens on the call.
"We take on 2 new roofing clients a month, because installs are hands-on. Book the call below. You leave it with your numbers diagnosed whether we work together or not."

Write at a 6th grade reading level. Short sentences. No jargon. The biggest campaigns on earth score simple on purpose, because simple keeps trance and complex breaks it. If a sentence needs a comma map to survive, cut it in half.

🤍 6B. The White List: Clean VSLs Worth Studying

🧠SOURCE: PKL-0024 · brand-friendly VSL principles

Direct response has a dirty corner: fake countdown timers, fear-mongering health claims, "watch before they take this down." You need none of it. These campaigns are famous, family-safe, and sell with fascination, humor, and demonstration instead of fear. Watch two of them this week and map every scene to the 11-step flow. They are all findable on YouTube with the search terms below.

CampaignNicheWhat it mastersSteal this for your VSL
Squatty Potty ("This Unicorn Changed the Way I Poop")Bathroom productMechanism made visual. A taboo topic handled with humor so clean your grandma can watch it.The kindergarten-simple mechanism demo. If they can make colon anatomy charming, you can make lead qualification charming.
Purple Mattress ("The Egg Test")MattressProof as spectacle. Raw eggs under glass dropped on the bed. One demo replaces 5 minutes of claims.Your "egg test" is the live dashboard: show cost per booked job dropping on screen instead of saying "we get results."
Chatbooks ("Real Mom")Photo booksDemographic mirroring. Describes the customer's actual Tuesday so precisely they feel personally seen.Your Section 3 research pieces performed out loud. The viewer should think "this person knows my week."
Jim Kwik / SuperbrainBrain trainingFascination over fear. Authority intro plus aspirational hook, zero panic, pure curiosity pull. The clean authority intro and a hook built on "why can some people X" instead of doom.
Dr. Marty (pet food)Pet healthStory selling in a wholesome niche. Emotional without being manipulative: love for the dog, not terror. The inciting incident structure: two dogs, same age, different energy. Two roofers, same market, different quarter.
Beverly Hills MDSkincareThe canonical 11-step flow. The exact skeleton from Section 6, scene by scene, in the wild.Watch it once with the 11 steps open in another tab and check them off as they happen. Best structure lesson available for free.
AG1 / Athletic Greens (long-form ads)SupplementsModern brand-safe direct response. One scoop, 75 ingredients: a mechanism you can repeat after one hearing. The one-line mechanism summary. Yours should be as repeatable: "every lead interviewed before your team dials."

How to study them (20 min each): watch once as a civilian. Then watch again with the 11-step flow next to you and timestamp each step. Then answer two questions: where did they hold my attention, and what would break if this were about MY niche? That second pass is where the learning happens.

The line you do not cross: no invented scarcity, no fake "spots left" that reset daily, no health-style fear claims about their business dying, no fabricated case studies. Your scarcity must be real (a genuine capacity limit), your numbers must be yours, and your pain sections describe their situation accurately instead of catastrophizing it. Clean converts fine. These seven campaigns printed fortunes without a single dark pattern.

🤖 7. Generate Your First Draft (The Prompt)

Feed your 8 research pieces into this prompt in Claude and get a complete first draft following the 11-step flow. It is a draft, not a final: your job afterward is the trance check, line by line.

COPY ALLROLE / CONTEXT: You are a direct response VSL copywriter trained on the biggest campaigns on the internet. You write in story mode, never lecture mode. You are writing a VSL script for my agency, which sells [SERVICE] to [NICHE]. GOAL: Write a complete 8 to 12 minute VSL script (1300 to 1900 words) following the exact 11-step flow I provide, using my research pieces as the raw material. CONSTRAINTS: - 6th grade reading level. Short sentences. - Story mode throughout. Never list features. Never lecture. - No price anywhere in the script. - No em dashes. No "unlock, leverage, revolutionize, game-changer." - The mechanism explanation must pass the kindergarten test: a child could repeat HOW it works. - One CTA: book the call. Mention it only in the close. - Mark visual cues in brackets, like [show dashboard on screen]. INPUTS, MY RESEARCH PIECES: 1. Demographics: [paste] 2. Physical problems: [paste] 3. Emotional problems: [paste] 4. Root cause: [paste] 5. Physical benefits: [paste] 6. Emotional benefits: [paste] 7. My named mechanism and its parts: [paste] 8. My authority and proof: [paste real numbers only] THE 11-STEP FLOW TO FOLLOW: 1. Fascinating hook question 2. Authority intro, one breath 3. Inciting incident: two companies, same conditions, different outcomes 4. The confusion 5. The discovery: the one difference 6. Root cause education 7. The mechanism, named, kindergarten simple 8. Testing and proof with my real numbers 9. The offer, no price 10. Social proof 11. Close: scarcity reason, one CTA, what the call includes OUTPUT FORMAT: The script with each of the 11 sections labeled, estimated seconds per section, and visual cues in brackets. EVALUATION: Before delivering, verify: 1. Reading level is 6th grade or below 2. Zero prices, zero em dashes, zero banned words 3. The mechanism section would make sense to a child 4. Every claim uses MY numbers from the inputs, nothing invented 5. At no point does the script switch from story to lecture

Then do the trance pass. Read the draft out loud. At every line ask: "am I still in trance, or did something knock me out?" Cut or rewrite every line that breaks the slide. This pass is what separates a script that converts from a script that exists.

🎥 8. Production Without a Studio

For selling agency services to local business owners, raw beats polished. A talking head with real dashboards on screen outconverts a cinematic production, because it looks like a person, not an ad. Your whole kit:

PieceHow
CameraYour phone at eye level, or a webcam. Window light in front of you, never behind.
AudioThe one thing worth $80: any USB or lav mic. Bad audio kills trance faster than bad video.
Screen sharesRecord the real dashboards from 5.21 and 5.22 with Loom. Proof on screen while you talk.
StructureTalking head for story sections, screen share for proof sections. Alternate. Nothing fancier.
Length8 to 12 minutes. Under 8 feels thin for a high-ticket service. Over 15 loses local owners.
EditingCut dead air, add captions. CapCut or Descript, one evening. No motion graphics needed.

Ship the ugly version first. Your v1 VSL with real numbers and a tight script beats the polished version you never finish. Re-record in month 2 with what you learned from watch-time data.

🧱 9. The Page It Lives On

One page, three blocks, nothing else. Build it with Claude Code in an afternoon like everything else in this course.

No navbar, no footer links, no about page. One page, one video, one action. Every extra link is an exit off the water slide. Bonus move: make the calendar appear only after 50% watch time, so your sales team knows every booking saw the pitch.

🚀 10. Two Ways to Get It Watched

The VSL is the asset. Distribution is the multiplier, and you have two paths. Start with Path A today because it costs nothing, then add Path B when you want volume.

📤Path A: Outbound (free, starts today)
Send the VSL to your niche list via DM and email. The video does the selling your cold message never could.
  • Build a list of 50 to 100 companies in your niche (you have the lead scraper class for this)
  • Send the message templates below
  • The CTA is watching the video, not booking a call. Lower friction, and the VSL does the converting
  • Expect 10 to 20% watch rates on warm-ish DMs, then bookings from the watchers
📥Path B: Ads (paid, scales)
Run simple ads to the niche. The ad's only job is the click. The VSL does everything else.
  • Ad creative = your VSL hook as a 30 second cut, or a static with the hook question as the headline
  • Target: business owners in the niche, or run to a lookalike of your client list
  • $20 to 50 a day is enough to learn. Watch time tells you if the script works before spend tells you
  • Everything you know from Modules 3 and 5 applies. The VSL is just the landing page now

The outbound messages, steal them:

DM template 1 · cold, value first
Hey [name], quick one. I put together a 9 minute breakdown of why most [niche] ad leads never turn into jobs, and the system we use to fix it (took one client from $247 to $138 per booked inspection). No pitch, it just explains the mechanics: [link]. Worth a watch next time you're stuck in the truck.
DM template 2 · follow-up, 3 days later
Did the video make sense for how you're running things? The part about the 90 seconds after the click is where most [niche] companies are leaking money. Happy to look at your setup if you want a second pair of eyes.
Email version · subject: your leads are not the problem
[Name], most [niche] owners think they have an ads problem. After [X] accounts, I can tell you it is almost always a qualification problem, and it happens in the 90 seconds after the click. I recorded a 9 minute breakdown of exactly how it works and how we fixed it for [client type]: [link]. If it resonates, my calendar is at the end of the video.

📊 11. The Four Numbers That Matter

30%+
Hook rate: still watching at 30 seconds
40%+
Reach the mechanism section (mid-video)
3-8%
Viewer to booked call
2-4x
Close rate vs cold booked calls

Where people drop tells you what to fix. Dying in the first 30 seconds: new hook. Dying at the mechanism: it is not kindergarten simple yet. Watching to the end but not booking: weak close or weak scarcity. The video analytics are your editor.

✅ 12. Homework: VSL Live in 7 Days

Progress 0 / 0 complete

The compounding play: this VSL works for you every day from the moment it exists. Every DM, every email signature, every ad, every "what do you guys do" gets the same 10 perfect minutes of your best pitch, delivered identically, at 3pm or 3am. It is the closest thing to cloning your best sales conversation, and you only have to have it once.
